Gracefully draped along the edge of a desert mountain preserve, this copper-coated estate in Phoenix was just listed for $3.6 million. And at that price, it just might be the best real estate bargain for miles around.
The reason? Just a few years ago, the owners splashed out more than $2.5 million on a renovation, money that the property’s listing agent, Johnathon De Young, confesses won’t be recouped on the sale. The good news for buyers is that the home is priced in line with the market, yet loaded with upgrades so valuable they will only be revealed to perspective buyers by the sellers, who, De Young says, insist on remaining anonymous.
“They are very private people,” the agent says.
When we asked why the unidentified owners had decided to part with the place, De Young would only say, “They are staying in the state, but moving to be closer to … something.”
But here’s what we do know. The four-bedroom, seven-bathroom, 10,519-square-foot mansion was originally built in 1995 and is filled with beautiful things. Drink in the custom mosaics, art pieces, jaw-dropping chandeliers, and what might be the most spectacular feature of the home—a his-and-hers closet, which the listing photos show filled to the brim with designer fashions.
The curved home evokes a Frank Lloyd Wright aesthetic, with luscious wood built-ins, walls of windows, and muted interiors intended to complement, rather than overwhelm, the surrounding views—which are like a natural work of art.
In 2017, the home was listed at just under $6.5 million, and the price has come down steadily since. It’s loaded with every imaginable high-end amenity, including a fitness facility, wine room, and huge areas for entertaining.
Outside, the pool and spa are ringed by outdoor living areas, and views of the 17-acre South Mountain Park and Preserve beyond, which offers world-class hiking and mountain biking trails.
But only qualified buyers will get the full list of surprises this house holds. And we have to admit, we’re a bit jealous.
