Every time the seasons change, it seems like there’s a new, hot home decor trend we’re supposed to care about. It’s nearly impossible to keep up without going broke!

Luckily for you, you don’t have to completely redecorate your living room to keep it looking current: Just a few on-trend pieces can transform your entire space. We talked with a few design experts who gave us their favorite current trends, along with their favorite decor piece to showcase that look. And the best part is that each piece rings in at under $20. That means you can refresh your living room without breaking the bank—and have a little bit left over, too.

    Trend 1: Blush pink

Millennial Pink has been trendy for years, and if you have yet to jump on the train, you’ll be happy to know there’s still time.

“Blush pink is a great addition to many color palettes and adds a fresh feeling to a tired interior,” says Deborah Lempert of Deborah Lempert Interiors.

A nice way to ease into the pink phenomenon without having your house look like Barbie’s playhouse? Opt for accessories in the rosy shade.

“A vase can add interest to the mantel or coffee table,” says Lempert.

Designer’s recommendation: Pink cylinder glass vase with metal stand ($19.95, Pier 1).

    Trend 2: Floral pattern

A cluster of floral plates makes a stunning collection on the wall.

“One of the big trends for 2019 is floral. It is a direct reaction to the monochromatic beige and gray interiors that have been all the quiet rage,” says Jeanie Engelbach of apartmentjeanie.

If you’re looking for an affordable and chic way to latch onto the trend, Engelbach recommends hanging a collection of floral-patterned plates on the wall.

Designer’s recommendation: Garden floral dinnerware ($6.99+, Pier 1).

    Trend 3: Maximalism

The quintessential maximalist room will seamlessly combine clashing patterns, varying textures, and even different design styles. Currently mixing patterns and textures is a must.

The easiest and most affordable way to do so in your own space is by changing out your throw pillows, says Sarah Schwuchow, owner and principal of Sarah Jacquelyn Interiors in Chicago.

“When choosing your pillows and layout, think about quantity, size, scale, color, and texture,” says Schwuchow. “The rule of three is always a good place to start. Look for one large-scale print, one small-scale print or a solid, and one texture.”

    Designer’s recommendation: Dash black-and-white pillow ($19.95, CB2)

    Trend 4: Natural materials

Woven baskets help you stay organized and in style.

    TJ Maxx

“Woven textures on lighting, furniture, and accessories add a lot of warmth and interest to any space, and you can expect to see even more in 2019,” says Build.com’s in-house interior designer Lauren O’Donnell.

A simple and inexpensive way to introduce these into your living room is through baskets and trays. O’Donnell says they can be used as planters, for organization, or simply as an accessory on your console or coffee table.

Designer’s recommendation: Small Havana oval natural storage basket, ($19.99, TJ Maxx)

    Trend 5: Texture

Blankets are inexpensive and easy to swap out.

    Stein Mart

“A current hot trend for living rooms is texture,” says Maisie Knowles of Maisie Knowles Interiors. Think wood finishes and textiles that you can’t help but touch. These things make a room feel more lived-in and less sterile.

“Good textures to bring in are chunky knits, fur, and animal hides. These textures can be brought into a space using things like throw pillows, blankets, or poufs—all of which are easy on the wallet as well.”

Designer’s recommendation: Vivian white cheetah faux fur throw ($16.99, Stein Mart)
