$700K Florida Home From ‘Edward Scissorhands’ Is a Slice of Movie History

It’s fitting that whimsical topiaries dot the grounds of this Florida home that once served as a movie set.

On the market for $699,900, the three-bedroom home in Lutz was a location for the 1990 Tim Burton movie “Edward Scissorhands,” starring Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder.

This was the place where an Avon lady brought home an artificial humanoid with scissors for hands. It also served as a makeshift HQ for the production team.

“One of the bedrooms was the director’s office and another was Johnny Depp’s break room and getaway room,” says listing agent Megan Hartnell, with Century 21. “It was the room where he would go in and smoke cigarettes and take naps. It was his room only.”

The current owner, who bought the place in 2020 for $230,000, updated it to look pretty much the way it did during filming.

“He does tours of the home, and he has tons of memorabilia in here,” including a movie script and items signed by the cast, Hartnell says. “He is really just hoping someone will come by that will be interested in possibly continuing what he’s been doing.”

Topiaries adorn the yard.

The list price includes all of the movie memorabilia visible in the listing photos, even the full-sized Edward Scissorhands in the kitchen.

And that kitchen also features updated appliances plus another decor tip of the cap to the movie.

“They do have the coolest mushroom wallpaper that was in the movie. They had a replica made to put it in the house,” Hartnell says.

Outside, the owner has redone the landscaping “with the topiaries to mimic what was outside in the movie that Edward Scissorhands cut and created,” she adds.

The only spaces missing the movie theme decor are the bedrooms, the agent says. “They’re cozy, just like regular lived-in bedrooms. The master bathroom is really nice.”

Many people drive by to look at the house, and that fan factor makes it a bit difficult to separate serious buyers from the looky-loos.

“There are so many people out there who are huge ‘Edward Scissorhands’ fans and I had no idea. I think [the buyer] will be someone who is very into it as well and would appreciate everything [the owner] has done,” Hartnell says.
