There was a time when Baseball Hall of Famer Chipper Jones looked like he might never leave the game. Now he’s getting ready to leave the Georgia home he’s owned since 2006. Chipper, whose real name is Larry Wayne Jones Jr., is selling his 15,057-square-foot home in Alpharetta for $3.75 million.

“Never in my mid-20s would I have given myself a snowball’s chance to be in camp and have a job at 40 years old,” Jones told The Associated Press in 2012, during what would be his final season. “But I like to think I’ve kept myself in pretty good shape over the years. The skills are still there to go out and get it done. I don’t know for how much longer, but we’re gonna ride it as long as we can.”

The third basemen spent his entire 18-season MLB career with the Atlanta Braves, so naturally the DeLand, FL, native set some deep roots in the Georgia soil.

Brokered by Harry Norman Realtors and presented by Judy Funk, the house sits on a 4.46-acre lot and boasts eight bedrooms, 8.5 baths, and a three-level library. It also has all the earmarks of having been owned by a professional athlete, equipped with a sprawling backyard field, basketball court and, of course, private batting cages.

The home takes full advantage of the warm Georgia weather, too, featuring an outdoor kitchen with two pizza ovens, a stone fire pit, and a heated pool.

The eight-time All-Star, 1995 World Series champion, and 1999 MLB Most Valuable Player was open about his love for Georgia during his Hall of Fame inauguration speech in 2018.

“You [Braves fans] stuck by me,” he said. “You’re the reason I never want to play anywhere else. I love you guys. Thank you.”
