Home Insurance: Are these Winter Disasters Covered?

There are a number of winter related problems, and you have a decent list of many common issues.

I would like to add the biggest issue we see in the mountains of Colorado; pipes bursting. Most of the homeowners in our area are secondary.

Those that turn their heat down and do not have someone checking on their property can easily end up with thousands in damage. Most insurance companies are now requiring an automatic shut off valve on the water main.

Cost to homeowners in our area varies between $1,500 and $3,000. There are also a number of services that provide video surveillance which helps with the second problem we are starting to see more in the mountains; squatting.

A good security system and remote video systems go a long way toward warding off people that may choose to rest for a few nights, weeks or months in your home. Most security system companies will provide stickers and signs for your home, which is one of the best deterrents.

Security companies will tell you the stickers and yard signs are probably more effective than the alarm itself.

We have sold software to insurance companies for 10 years so we have an intimate knowledge of casualty insurance. If you have more questions or would like to discuss the other 10 you have on your list, just give us a call or fill out our contact form.
