In a scenario where art and real life converged, the rapper Young Thug was arrested as part of a “sweeping gang indictment” in the Atlanta area, according to local news reports.
The performer, whose given name is Jeffery Williams, was one of 28 people charged in the racketeering indictment, according to the New York Times.
Fellow Atlanta rapper Gunna, whose legal name is Sergio Giavonni Kitchens, turned himself in to authorities two days after Young Thug’s arrest.
Gunna faces a charge of violating the state’s racketeering law and accusations of receiving stolen property and possessing drugs with intent to sell.
We were curious to see the rappers’ cribs. Let’s take a look at where they live.
Young Thug’s digs are criminally nice. The rapper picked up the pad in Atlanta’s upscale Buckhead neighborhood for $3.05 million in October 2021.
The contemporary construction offers five bedrooms, seven baths, and 5,903 square feet of living space. The eye-catching design features a stone-and-wood exterior, a pivoting front door, and floor-to-ceiling windows.
The sleek sanctuary features high ceilings, a three-story staircase, and an open floor plan filled with natural light.
The media room, dining room, living area, and custom kitchen are all located on the main floor.
The primary suite is also on the main level. It comes with sliding glass doors that open to a patio. The en suite bathroom features a rain shower and a separate soaking tub.
Outside, the 1.6-acre grounds come with a kitchen and dining space. And, should Young Thug have the wherewithal to add one, there’s plenty of room for a pool.
Young Thug has put out several No. 1 albums and has over one billion streams of his songs on Spotify. The 30-year-old also won a Grammy for his work on the song “This Is America,” with Childish Gambino. He also founded his own record label, YSL Records.
Thug’s former Atlanta mansion
In late 2018, the rapper put a different Buckhead mansion on the market for $3 million. Reports at the time claimed Thug had fallen behind on his mortgage payments and owed over $2 million to Heritage Select Homes LLC.
Marketed as an entertainer’s delight, the luxe mansion wound up selling in June 2019 for the reduced price of $1.8 million.
Since then, the home has been a subject of local controversy. New owners made it available as a short-term rental, and the mansion became a popular place to throw wild bashes. In 2020, the mansion generated nearly 100 calls to police regarding noise and other complaints.
The mansion went back on the market in late 2020 for $3.5 million. Currently on the market for $3 million, the home is listed as contingent sale.
Young Thug’s fellow chart-topping rapper Gunna also owns a head-turning spread. The man behind “Drip Too Hard” purchased a newly built residence in February 2021 for just under $1.9 million.
The 5,500 square-foot mansion in Decatur, GA, sits on just over a half-acre and features five bedrooms and seven baths.
Highlights include a 22-foot fireplace, chef’s kitchen, and high ceilings. The dining room with barn doors allows a flex space for an office, playroom, or creative space.
The primary suite comes with a fireplace, private balcony, and spa bath. An unfinished terrace level could be outfitted as a bar and rec space, gym, theater, or guest room.
Gunna is signed to Young Thug’s record label, YSL Records, as well as 300 Entertainment and Atlantic Records. His 2020 album “Wunna” topped the Billboard 200. And the 28-year-old’s most recent album, “DS4Ever,” also topped the charts.
