Raise a Glass! $1.25M Long Beach Bungalow Features a Private Irish Pub

From the exterior, this 1920 Craftsman bungalow in the historic Bluff Heights neighborhood of Long Beach, CA, is charming with a capital C.

On the market for $1,250,000, the home with an adorable facade offers little hint of the party options out back.

Interior highlights of the home include a dining room with a box ceiling and French doors with stained glass. In the living room, there’s a cozy original fireplace and mantel. Other original features include the hardwood flooring, wood molding, and casement windows.

In two of the three bedrooms, a nearly wall-length, built-in wardrobe provides storage as well as beauty with its gorgeous dark wood stain. One of the two bathrooms features an original cast-iron, claw-foot tub.

Extensive efforts were made to align the home’s design to what it might have been in the 1920s, including a vintage O’Keefe & Merritt stove.

The relatively modest 1,386-square-foot home sits on a 6,000-square-foot lot. It features native landscaping, with beautiful wisteria draping the long driveway.

But what’s really caught the attention of buyers in this neighborhood of bungalows is the full-size pub out back in what used to be a carriage house.

Dubbed Welch’s Bar & Grill (just look for the hand-painted sign), it’s what you’d expect in an Irish pub: comfy leather chairs, a mirrored bar, dark wood, beer taps, and plenty of artwork on the walls. It’s the perfect spot to curl up with a pint after a hard day’s work.

Outdoor dining

If you prefer to enjoy an adult beverage alfresco, you can head to the covered patio at the back of the house. The home also boasts an underground wine cellar.

You could host guests for outdoor dining in a dedicated spot with a garden, greenhouses, and a permanent metal structure adorned with fairy lights.

Last sold in 1999 for $285,000, the home is currently priced at just over $900 a square foot. The median list price in the 90803 ZIP code is $794 per square foot, but we think this is the only home in the neighborhood to boast a private pub.

Beatrix Whipple with Keller Williams Pacific Estate has the listing.
