History
The town’s name of Breckenridge came from the town’s founder General George E. Spencer. He wanted a post office for the town so he named it after the country’s vice president at the time, John C. Breckinridge.
His plan worked and during the late 1800s the Breckenridge post office was the only one for hundreds of miles around.

Breckenridge also has two elementary schools. Children have to travel to other towns to attend middle school and high school.
